Scam alert from the Solicitors Regulation Authority website:
The SRA has been informed that members of public have received a letter by fax, claiming to be from "Keith Oliver (Distinction) Head of Private Client Attorney" with a letterhead and footer falsely claiming it is from Peters & Peters Solicitors LLP. The letter relates to pursuing compensation from a purportedly unclaimed "permanent life insurance policy", with the recipient of the letter understood to have the same last name as a supposedly deceased client.
The letter misuses the name and address of a genuine firm and the name of a genuine solicitor.
Any business or transactions through the contact numbers or email addresses set out above are not undertaken by a solicitor's firm or a solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Please don't confront scammers or tell them their details are on anti-scam sites. It will take them minutes to set up a new identity and existing warnings will be worthless.
Scam alert from the Solicitors Regulation Authority website:
The SRA has been informed that faxes have been sent to various people falsely claiming to be from "Alex Mitchell, LLB (Hons)" of "Stevensdrake Solicitors".
The faxes seen by the SRA advise the recipient that a client of "Alex Mitchell", with the same surname as the recipient, died in a motor accident in 2012. It is claimed that the client had a life insurance policy in the value of $7,600,000.00. It then asks the recipient for their consent and cooperation in presenting them as heirs, to supposedly claim and divide between them the insurance policy proceeds.
The documents seen by the SRA provide an email address of "alexmitchell@stevensdrakes.com", the telephone number "+44 289 581 7926", a fax number of "+44 203 966 7714" and a website link of www.stevensdrakes.com (which no longer seems to be operating). They also misuse the name and postal address of a genuine firm of solicitors and a genuine solicitor (see below).
Any business or transaction through the faxes referred to, or through the contact information listed above, is not undertaken by a solicitor’s firm or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
Please don't confront scammers or tell them their details are on anti-scam sites. It will take them minutes to set up a new identity and existing warnings will be worthless.
