Scam Alert from the Solicitors Regulation Authority website:
A member of the public has received a letter claiming to be from "Alan Crotty" of "Alan Crotty & Associates Chambers". The document relates to agreeing to claim a supposedly unclaimed life insurance policy, which is said to be in the name of someone with the same surname as the recipient of the letter.
The letter provides contact details for "Alan Crotty" as being a telephone number of "+447440969458"; a fax number of "+441618841645"; email addresses of "alancrottyesq@gmail.com" and "alancrotty@post.com" and an address of "Plimsoll Building, 1 Handyside Street, Kings Cross, London, N1C."
The letter also makes reference to a website of "www.alancrottyuk.com" which uses the names "Alan Crotty & Associates LLP" and "Alan Crotty & Associates". The website provides the same other contact details as the letter but an email address of info@alancrottyuk.com. This is not a website for a genuine firm of solicitors but has cloned some information and layout (but not contact details) from the website of a genuine firm of solicitors.
The SRA does not regulate anyone with the name "Alan Crotty" and does not authorise or regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called "Alan Crotty & Associates" (or other variations of this used in the letter and website referred to above).
The website of "www.alancrottyuk.com" also misuses the name of a genuine solicitor, in claiming that "David Coombs" is a partner in "Alan Crotty & Associates LLP", and claims that "William Lamb" is a consultant at the firm". The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called "William Lamb".
Any business or transactions through the website, contact numbers or email addresses set out above are not undertaken by a solicitor's firm or a solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.
