The area code for the U.S. Virgin Islands is 340 and the country is part of the NANP.
Area code 340 was created during a split from the original 809 area code which was completed around June 1997.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands, a local telephone number is dialed using the seven digits of the telephone number. Callers from the United States or another NANP country would dial this with 1 340 and then the seven digits. Callers from outside the NANP would dial their international access code, followed by 1 and the full 10 digit number.
