Puerto Rico

Post by ScamNumbers »

The area codes for Puerto Rico are 787 and 939 and the country is part of the NANP.

Area code 787 was created during a split from the original 809 area code which was completed around March 1996. The area code is also represented on the telephone dial by the letter sequence PUT or PTR.

The overlay Area Codes 939 was added in around September 2001 due to the explosive growth of cellular communication in Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico, a local telephone number is dialed using the area code and the seven digits of the telephone number. Callers from the United States or another NANP country would prefix this with 1. Callers from outside the NANP would dial their international access code, followed by 1 and the full 10 digit number.
