Scam Type: Phishing or Malware
From the Solicitors Regulation Authority website:
The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to two solicitors firms falsely claiming to be from "Nichole Steele" from O'Neill Patient Solicitors LLP.
The emails claim to relate to a "Completion Settlement Statement and Mortgage Offer" and refer to an attached "completion statement" which the recipient is encouraged to download and then open with their web browser.
A concern is that the attached document may contain malware if opened.
The emails seen by the SRA appear to be sent from the conveyancing department of "O'Neill Patient Solicitors LLP" but are actually sent from the email addresses "Conveyancing'langtownandcountry.com" and "team@homegroundonline.com".
Any business or transactions through the email addresses "Conveyancing@langtownandcountry.com" and "team@homegroundonline.com" are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
The emails contain a footer which provide a telephone number as "0161 694 8383" and fax number "0844 576 2172".
