The area code for Antigua and Barbuda is 268 and the country is part of the NANP.

The area code was created in a split from the original area code 809 around April 1996. The area code is also represented on the telephone dial by the letter sequence ANT.

In Antigua and Barbuda, a local telephone number is dialed using the seven digits of the telephone number. Callers from the United States or another NANP country would dial 1 268 and the seven digit number. Callers from outside the NANP would dial their international access code, followed by 1 268 and the seven digit number.

This area code should not be confused with +268, the country code for Swaziland.

Scam Warning

The 268 area code has been linked to a form of telephone fraud known as the "one ring scam". The person perpetuating the scam calls the victim via a robodialer or similar means, sometimes at odd hours of the night, then hangs up when the phone is answered with the hope that they will be curious enough to call the number back. When the victim does this, an automatic $19.95 international call fee is charged to their account, as well as $9.00/min thereafter.
